The Joy of Entertaining

For some the idea of hosting a party can be intimidating, but with these great tips and tricks your next gathering will be a hit with less stress to you.

Preparation is key when putting together the perfect shindig. When first planning your party you will need to know how many people will you invite? What will you need? Will you be doing the shopping? Plan ahead and know how many chairs and tables you will need, along with tablecloths and chair coverings. Will you need to rent out a space? Keep yourself sane from not forgetting something by creating a checklist to help you stay on track and not forget anything.

When inviting a small group of close friends, a simple phone call will do nicely. With large groups or more formal events, a written invitation is more suitable and makes the whole thing memorable.

Plan your shopping list early and pick up the non-perishable foods a week or two in advance to avoid any last minute stress. Organize your menu so you aren't spending all your time in the kitchen. Lighten your workload by making some dishes a day or two before the party.

Set up the table and decor the night before so you can worry about other things they day of the party. It is recommended that you take any cheese platter out of the fridge 1 or 2 hours before serving to enhance the flavor. The same thing goes with red wine, open it 2 hours prior to serving so the wine has a chance to breath.

Now that you are all ready for the party, don't forget to enjoy yourself. Get out of the kitchen and mingle with your guests.
